ABC Academy in Saint Albans, VT is seeking a qualified Assistant Preschool Teacher to work with Preschool (3–5) in a center-based environment. This position requires a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred.

What You'll Do
The Role
ABC Academy is seeking a warm, dependable, and collaborative Assistant Preschool Teacher to support our preschool classroom and help create a safe, engaging, and joyful environment for young children. Working alongside the Lead Teacher, the Preschool Assistant Teacher helps facilitate daily routines, support children’s learning and development, and contribute to a classroom culture grounded in play, exploration, and caring relationships.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with children, values teamwork, and believes that meaningful learning happens through connection, curiosity, and hands-on experiences.
What You Will Do
Support Daily Learning
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based activities.
- Engage children in conversations, stories, songs, art, sensory play, dramatic play, and hands-on exploration.
- Encourage children’s curiosity, creativity, and participation throughout the day.
- Help prepare classroom materials and learning centers.
Support Outdoor Exploration
- Participate in daily outdoor activities including nature walks, gardening, loose parts play, water play, and seasonal exploration.
- Help actively supervise children outdoors and promote safe, engaging play in all Vermont seasons.
- Encourage children to observe, explore, and connect with the natural world.
Foster Positive Relationships
- Build warm, responsive relationships with children that help them feel safe, valued, and confident.
- Use gentle guidance and positive interactions to support emotional regulation, cooperation, and problem-solving.
- Support children’s growing independence and self-help skills.
Assist with Classroom Routines
- Help with transitions, meals, rest time, toileting, handwashing, and cleanup routines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Assist with active supervision indoors and outdoors to ensure children’s health and safety.
Collaborate with the Teaching Team
- Work closely with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to provide consistent, high-quality care and education.
- Communicate observations and concerns about children with the Lead Teacher.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience in the field
- Associates Degree in a related field preferred
- Must be able to pass a background check
