What You'll Do
As a mechanic at Berkshire Bike and Board, you'll be responsible for servicing and maintaining a wide range of bicycles, from basic tune-ups to complex overhauls. We'll provide the necessary training to help you develop your service skills to the highest level, and our team will work together to ensure that every bike leaves our shop in top condition. Our goal is to deliver an outstanding customer experience, and we're looking for individuals who share our passion for bicycles and customer service.
Here are the key responsibilities of our mechanics:
- Take direction from our service writers to complete service tickets based on a first-in, first-out system
- Complete tune-ups in a professional and timely manner, meeting our and industry standards
- Communicate with customers as unexpected complications arise or for completion of service
- Document work and update work orders in our point of sale systems
- Maintain a clean work environment and follow through on loose ends
Requirements
- Good communication skills. You will be in the middle of many moving parts. Communicating progress and timelines as well as following directions will be critical to your success.
- Excellent reliability. Proven experience showing up to work day to day on time is a must.
- The ability to lift 50 pounds head high.
- Ability to learn mechanical and technical skills related to all aspects of bicycle service.
- Ability to concentrate on your task all day. This job requires 8 hours of solid attention, on your feet, day in and day out.
- Commitment to our core values.
- Ability to maintain a great attitude with flexibility to lend a hand wherever needed.
- Successful and timely completion of required technical training.
Nice to Have
- Technical knowledge of past and current styles of bicycles, bicycle components, and accessories.
- Experience as a bicycle mechanic or bike builder is preferred but we will train the right person.
- Proficiency in Lightspeed or similar point of sale systems.
- Enthusiasm for bicycles.
