About This Role

We are seeking a warm, energetic, and qualified Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood program in Greenwich, CT. The ideal candidate brings a basic understanding of child development, some level of classroom management skills, and a genuine love for working with young children.

What You'll Do

  • Demonstrate the Children’s Day School mission, culture, goals, values, philosophies, policies, and development of an inclusive environment. 
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children that will encourage their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. 
  • Assist in the design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with parents/guardians, children and coworkers.
  • Assist in organizing activities designed to promote child development while ensuring the safety and supervision of all children.
  • Respond to parent/guardian comments and concerns, demonstrating sensitivity, interesting and respect while maintaining confidentiality and escalating to the Executive Director, as needed.
  • Assist in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum (based on the Connecticut Preschool Framework)designed to respond to children's individual developmental levels, physical and emotional needs and current interests.
  • Provide a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and activities which foster social skills and encourage children to think, problem solve, question, and experience.
  • Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development and physical health.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parent/guardian regarding the development and specific activities of children.
  • Follow all safety and health rules, while encouraging children to utilize health, safety and nutritional practices.
  • Supervise children appropriately at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality about issues concerning other staff members, children and families.
  • Responsible for any other duties and tasks that may arise that are integral to maintaining the school's operation.


 

 

Requirements


  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED, with preferably at least two years of early childhood experience and/or some ECE credits.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communicat8ion skills and basic computer skills.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check.
  • Must pass health screening.

 Physical Demands:

 

  • Follow State, Federal and CDS guidelines including immunizations, employment physical and required health and safety training.
  • Ensure children’s safety while performing the following job functions:

○ Frequently lift, move or hold children with a range of weight from 10 - 40+ pounds.  

○ Supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods of varied weather conditions.

○ Demonstrate full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, crawl and otherwise fully participate in physical activities.

○ Be able to respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies.
