What You'll Do

Food Preparation & Service

• Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to approved CACFP meal patterns and menus.
• Ensure meals are prepared on schedule and served at proper temperatures.
• Accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special nutrition needs as directed.
• Maintain portion control and meal counts in compliance with CACFP requirements.
• Ensure food quality, freshness, and presentation standards are met.

CACFP Compliance

• Follow all CACFP regulations and documentation requirements.
• Maintain accurate meal production records, temperature logs, inventory records, and food program paperwork.
• Participate in CACFP monitoring visits and audits.
• Ensure meals meet USDA nutritional standards.
• Assist with menu planning that supports healthy eating habits and child development.

Kitchen Safety & Sanitation

• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food storage areas.
• Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
• Monitor food expiration dates and rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
• Ensure compliance with local health department regulations.

Inventory & Purchasing

• Maintain adequate inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
• Assist with ordering food and supplies within budget guidelines.
• Receive and properly store deliveries.

Teamwork & Professionalism

• Communicate positively with staff, children, and families.
• Work cooperatively with classroom staff during meal service.
• Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
• Support the center’s mission of providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children.



Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to pass a background check
• Previous experience in food service, childcare nutrition, school nutrition, or commercial kitchen preferred.
• Knowledge of CACFP guidelines preferred or willingness to learn.
• Food Handler Certification or ServSafe Certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.
• Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and walking.
• Ability to safely lift food boxes, kitchen supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to work in hot and cold kitchen environments.
