Food Service Worker
About This Role
The food service worker is responsible for planning, budgeting, shopping, preparing, and serving balanced meals and snacks that meet the nutritional and medical needs of children. The food service worker oversees all kitchen operations, maintains safe, clean, and sanitary facilities, and ensures safe food preparation, storage, and disposal in accordance with accepted food handling practices, food safety regulations, and childcare food guidelines. The Food Service Worker supports the center's philosophy, programs, and policies to maintain a standard of care that contributes to the Center's reputation for excellence. The Food Service Worker will also be required to have childcare experience. This is a dual role with the majority of the time operating as our Center Cook.

What You'll Do
- Clean and inspect equipment, small kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
- Apportion and serve food to children.
- Cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or the number of portions to be served.
- Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, or other cooking equipment.
- Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures.
- Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
- Bake breads, rolls, or other pastries.
- Know how to use an InstaPot
- Know how to use an Air Fryer
- Take inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Monitor menus and spending to ensure that meals are prepared economically.
- Plan menus that are varied, nutritionally balanced, and appetizing, taking advantage of in-season and locally available foods.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director in accordance with company needs.
- Drive center vehicle(s)/transport children when necessary.
Requirements
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- 6 months of experience
- Lifting to 50 lbs.
- Be able to see and hear clearly
- Must have a High School diploma or equivalent
- Has obtained a Food Management Certificate and ServSafe Certificate or can obtain within 90 days
- Has work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for large groups in shifts, preferably in a childcare facility
- Has some flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work, weekday - morning through mid-day schedule
- Exhibits reliable attendance and accountability
- Successful background checks and VA licensing standards are required
