About This Role
A daycare lead teacher manages the daily classroom environment, creates and implements early childhood curriculums, and guides the social, emotional, and cognitive growth of young children. They also supervise assistant teachers and communicate directly with parents regarding child progress.
What You'll Do
- Plan lessons: Design age-appropriate daily activities, play routines, and learning objectives.
- Lead the room: Direct assistant teachers, aides, and volunteers in the classroom.
- Ensure safety: Maintain clean, secure spaces that follow state health and licensing rules.
- Talk with families: Share daily updates, developmental milestones, and behavior notes with parents.
- Assess growth: Track individual child progress and adjust learning goals as needed.
Requirements
- Experience: Usually 1 to 2 years of prior hands-on work in a licensed child care or preschool setting.
- Education: High school diploma plus a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) depending on state rules
- Certifications: Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR certifications, plus cleared background checks
