Based in Yuma, this support staff member opening at Little Hands Big Steps, LLC pays $15.15 – $16/Hr and requires a willingness to earn a CDA, with full program support provided.
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role assists with daily routines, classroom activities, active supervision, and positive behavior guidance. The Assistant Teacher helps implement age‑appropriate curriculum, maintains a clean and organized classroom, and supports children’s social‑emotional development. Strong teamwork, professionalism, and bilingual communication in English and Spanish are essential for success in this role.

What You'll Do
- Child Supervision — Support active supervision at all times, ensuring children’s safety indoors and outdoors.
- Classroom Support — Assist the Lead Teacher with daily routines, transitions, activities, and classroom organization.
- Curriculum Assistance — Help prepare materials, guide children through learning activities, and reinforce age‑appropriate skills.
- Hygiene & Care — Support diapering, toileting, handwashing, and maintaining cleanliness in accordance with state health regulations.
- Positive Guidance — Model appropriate behavior, use redirection, and support children’s social‑emotional development.
- Communication — Maintain professional communication with staff and families; report concerns to the Lead Teacher or administration.
- Documentation Support — Assist with attendance, daily notes, observations, and incident reports as needed.
- Team Collaboration — Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and staff to maintain a positive, safe, and engaging environment.
- Classroom Cleanliness — Help sanitize toys, surfaces, and materials to maintain a healthy classroom.
- Professional Development — Complete required annual training hours and attend staff meetings or trainings.
Requirements
- Education Requirement — High School Diploma or GED required.
- Fingerprint Clearance Card — Must hold a valid Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- CPR & First Aid — Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
- Background Check — Must pass all state‑required background checks.
- TB Test — Negative TB test as required by Arizona licensing.
- Training Hours — Completion of required annual training hours (minimum 24 hours per year).
- Work Eligibility — Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Physical Requirements — Ability to lift to 30 lbs, stand for extended periods, and actively supervise children.
- Communication Skills — Ability to communicate professionally with staff and families.
- Bilingual Requirement — Must be bilingual: English and Spanish.
- Teamwork — Must work collaboratively and follow directions from Lead Teachers and administration.

Nice to Have
- Experience with Lesson Planning — Experience supporting curriculum or preparing simple learning activities.
- Early Childhood Coursework — Some Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework or CDA in progress.
- Classroom Technology Skills — Comfortable using tablets for documentation or communication apps.
- Behavior Guidance Training — Familiarity with positive guidance methods or Conscious Discipline.
- Food Handler Certification — Arizona Food Handler Card.
- Experience with Infants or Toddlers — Prior experience in infant or toddler classrooms.
- Creative Skills — Skills in arts, music, storytelling, or sensory play.
- Flexibility — Ability to float between classrooms when needed.
