About This Role

Magic Carpet Academy is hiring for a support staff member role in Wilson. Compensation is $10 – $12/Hr. Candidates need completed early childhood education (ECE) college credits.


Magic Carpet Academy is looking for a caring, dependable, and energetic Pre-K2 Assistant Teacher to support our Pre-K2 classroom. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment for 2-year-old children.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with young children, communicates well with children and adults, and understands the importance of active supervision, patience, consistency, and professionalism in the classroom. This position requires someone who can support classroom routines, diapering/toileting, meals, rest time, outdoor play, transitions, classroom organization, and age-appropriate learning activities.

Responsibilities include assisting with lesson implementation, helping children develop independence, language, social-emotional skills, and self-help skills, maintaining a safe and clean classroom, supporting positive behavior guidance, and following all MCA policies and North Carolina child care rules.

Applicants must be reliable, patient, flexible, and willing to work as part of a team in a busy early childhood classroom environment. Childcare experience is preferred.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities – Pre-K2 Assistant Teacher

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom routines, age-appropriate lessons, activities, and transitions.
  • Support children in developing early learning skills, including language development, listening, following simple directions, social skills, fine motor skills, and beginning independence.
  • Help supervise children during indoor play, outdoor play, meals, diapering/toileting routines, handwashing, rest time, centers, and dismissal.
  • Maintain active supervision at all times by positioning yourself where all children can be seen and heard.
  • Assist with small-group and individual activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Help children practice independence, including handwashing, toileting/diapering routines, cleaning up, organizing belongings, using words to communicate needs, and following classroom expectations.
  • Support positive behavior guidance using redirection, encouragement, consistency, patience, and calm communication.
  • Engage with children during play and learning activities to build vocabulary, social-emotional skills, confidence, and positive relationships.
  • Assist with classroom materials, centers, sensory activities, art activities, learning games, and instructional preparation during approved planning time.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Sanitize tables, toys, classroom materials, diapering/toileting areas, and other surfaces as required.
  • Assist with meal and snack routines, including setup, supervision, cleanup, and proper sanitation.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, staff, and administration.
  • Report injuries, behavior concerns, safety concerns, unusual observations, toileting/diapering concerns, or parent concerns to the Lead Teacher or Director immediately.
  • Follow all MCA policies, classroom procedures, schedules, and North Carolina child care rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
  • Avoid personal phone use, personal conversations, and non-supervision tasks while supervising children.

Requirements

Qualifications – Pre-K4 Assistant Teacher

  • NC Early Childhood Credential required.
  • At least 6 Early Childhood Education college credits required.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required, or willingness to obtain within the required timeframe.
  • Must clear a full background check.
  • Must meet all health screening and child care employment requirements.
  • High School Diploma or GED minimum.
  • Must be dependable, professional, patient, and able to work as part of a classroom team.
  • Must be able to follow the Lead Teacher’s directions, classroom schedule, MCA policies, and North Carolina child care rules.

About Magic Carpet Academy

Magic Carpet Academy is a Child Care Center in Wilson, NC opening in September 2021. The center will offer child care services for children ages 0 to 5 using the Experience Early Learning Curriculum. Mrs. Reynalin Barnes, Owner and Site Director of Magic Carpet Academy, is backed by 20 years of experience in education, both in teaching and administration. Mrs. Barnes has a Masters Degree in Mathematics Teaching and a Diploma in School Administration. She possesses a license as a teacher, a NC K-12 Principal and was named Teacher of Year in 2009 and 2012. She is also a Level III Early Childhood and School Age Administrator.
