Kauai Child Care Resource and Referral Program Specialist
About This Role
PATCH is seeking a dedicated professional to support our training programs, recruit and guide prospective family child care providers, ensure USDA meal pattern compliance for the Child Care Food Program, and assist practitioners with professional development, child care registry navigation, and health and safety requirements.
What You'll Do
Provider Recruitment & Outreach
- Maintain a tracking system that follows potential family childcare providers from the initial phone call to final licensing/registration.
- Conduct home visits to provide technical assistance to potential family childcare providers, helping them establish quality care in their homes.
- Conduct outreach activities to identify potential providers, promote the business of family childcare, and inform the public about the Childcare Registry.
Childcare Registry & DHS Support
- Field calls from practitioners regarding the Childcare Registry program within your island district.
- Review Registry applications and supporting documentation for completeness under the direction of Registry Specialists.
- Act as a liaison between Registry Specialists and practitioners to help them obtain or update their Childcare Registry.
- Provide technical assistance on Registry forms and guide practitioners on annual DHS Health & Safety requirements.
- Counsel practitioners on available training opportunities and professional development programs to support career goals.
USDA Food Program Support
- Perform support and pre-approval visits to childcare providers to educate them on all aspects of the USDA Child Care Food Program.
- Develop home monitoring schedules and maintain accurate documentation of reviews and program recordkeeping.
- Read, evaluate, and adjust participant menus, including tallying changes and making follow-up calls.
- Provide ongoing technical assistance to participants regarding the USDA Child Care Food Program.
Participant & Class Administration
- Receive, log, and maintain Registration Deposit Fee requests; manage participant enrollment and deposit returns/pick-ups.
- Accurately input and maintain participant information, event details, and evaluation forms in the WLS database.
- Maintain continuous contact with trainers by sending reminders and updates regarding schedule changes or cancellations.
- Connect training participants with other community and professional development resources.
Training Materials, Inventory & Scheduling
- Coordinate the childcare training class schedule specifically for your respective island.
- Prepare, compile, and produce all required physical materials (fliers, handouts, and supplies) for training classes.
- Track inventory of class materials, attendance records, and feedback forms; act as the checkpoint for trainers picking up and returning materials.
- Review Training Bucket procedures with new trainers and track completed training materials.
Technical, Reporting & Team Support
- Process Trainer Evaluation Summaries, track projected hours, and report training stats directly to the Island Coordinator.
- Provide technical support and assistance for Online Training platforms as needed.

Other Duties
- Assist other PATCH offices with training department responsibilities and operational needs.
- Represent PATCH by attending community outreach and marketing events to promote our services.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Usually indoors under . Requires long periods of sitting.
- Field work
Work Hours:
- Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm; duties may require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Equipment Use:
- Computer and standard office equipment.
Mental, Physical and Communication Demands:
- Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Requires working under minimal supervision.
- Must be organized and able to pay close attention to detail and requires working to established procedures and the ability to be prompt and on time.
- Must be able to type 30 words per minute
Requirements
Education/Experience:
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Experience working in the early childhood field is preferred
- Basic nutrition knowledge
- Computer literate with proficiency in Word, Excel, & Power Point
- Previous experience interacting in a multi-cultural community.
- Requires basic knowledge of customer service and oral communication skills.
- Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience as a child care provider highly preferred.
- Some familiarity with USDA meal pattern requirements is preferred
- Knowledge of professional development resources within the community preferred.
