Teacher's Assistant
About This Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and nurturing Preschool Teacher to lead and engage children in our three- and four-year-old classroom at Pre-K Preparatory Learning Academy.
This is an active teaching position for someone who enjoys helping young children learn, explore, build confidence, and prepare for their next stage of learning. Our teacher will create meaningful learning experiences through hands-on activities, STEAM, literacy, music and movement, outdoor learning, social-emotional development, and purposeful play.
You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, organized, and engaging classroom while providing consistent routines, positive guidance, and age-appropriate instruction.
We are looking for someone who can bring energy and creativity into the classroom while also providing the structure preschoolers need. The ideal candidate is patient, reliable, organized, comfortable managing a classroom, and genuinely excited about helping young children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
What You'll Do
- Support the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, organized, and engaging classroom
- Assist with daily lessons, learning centers, small-group activities, STEAM, art, music, movement, and outdoor learning
- Interact with children throughout the day through conversation, reading, play, and hands-on learning
- Help children develop independence, confidence, positive social skills, and school-readiness skills
- Provide active supervision and remain attentive to children at all times
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, meals, rest time, toileting, and handwashing
- Use positive guidance and appropriate classroom-management techniques
- Help prepare classroom materials, activities, and learning centers
- Observe children and share important developmental or behavioral information with the Lead Teacher
- Help maintain a clean, sanitized, organized, and welcoming classroom
- Communicate professionally and positively with children, families, coworkers, and administration
- Step in and take initiative when the Lead Teacher is assisting another child or completing classroom responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher, floaters, administration, and other members of the center team
- Participate in family activities, special programs, classroom celebrations, and center-wide events
- Follow all center policies and applicable childcare health, safety, supervision, and licensing requirements
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development
- Bring patience, dependability, energy, teamwork, and a genuine love for working with young children every day
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience working with young children preferred but not required
- Must be able to pass all required background checks and fingerprinting
- Must meet Georgia childcare employment and training requirements
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Must be patient, nurturing, energetic, and comfortable working with three- and four-year-old children
- Must be willing to actively participate in classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, rest time, toileting, and daily routines
- Must be able to follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and directions from the Lead Teacher and administration
- Must be able to use positive guidance and appropriate classroom-management techniques
- Must be comfortable assisting children with toileting and other personal-care needs when necessary
- Must be physically able to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stand, walk, and actively engage with children throughout the workday
- Must be able to safely lift and assist children when necessary
- Must communicate professionally with children, families, coworkers, and administration
- Must be willing to complete required training and ongoing professional development
- Must be a team player who is willing to take initiative and help where needed
- Must have a genuine interest in helping young children learn, grow, and succeed*
Nice to Have
- CDA, TCC, Early Childhood Education coursework, or other childcare credential
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed childcare or preschool setting
- Knowledge of early childhood development and developmental milestones
- Experience with Frog Street or another early childhood curriculum
- Experience with positive guidance and preschool classroom management
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience with hands-on learning, STEAM, sensory activities, art, music, or movement
- Experience supporting children with different learning, behavioral, or developmental needs
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills
- Experience communicating with families through a childcare communication app
- Creativity and enthusiasm for helping prepare classroom activities and learning centers
- Strong organization and communication skills
- A positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude and willingness to take initiative
- Interest in growing professionally and potentially advancing into a Lead Teacher position
