Rainbow Playschool in Woodstock, VT is seeking a qualified Lead Preschool Teacher to work with Mixed / All Ages in a center-based environment. This position requires completed early childhood education college credits.


A Classroom Lead Teacher at Rainbow Playschool provides a program that meets the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and cultural needs of both the individual child and the group, through a warm, supportive, and enriching atmosphere.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities & Duties

Program & Compliance

  • Carry out the Mission, Vision, and Values established by the Board of Directors
  • Read and become fluent in the philosophy, handbook, and State Regulations
  • Ensure all areas meet state regulations
  • Ensure toys and materials are cleaned and maintained
  • Store medicines and cleaning supplies inaccessible to children, or keep them in locked cabinets
  • Follow health and safety procedures and adult/child ratios

Curriculum & Development

  • Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate program for young children
  • Plan and implement curriculum in accordance with the program's policies and philosophy
  • Maintain daily and weekly written plans reflecting the interests and abilities of the children
  • Observe and document children's progress through anecdotal notes, developmental checklists, assessments, and other screenings
  • Access support services for children and families with special needs

Environment & Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy environment where children are supervised at all times
  • Maintain a classroom that is clean, safe, stimulating, and appropriate for each child's developmental level
  • Take responsibility for the appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom
  • Share housekeeping responsibilities equally with other classroom staff
  • Design room arrangements that support the goals of the class
  • Promote healthy eating practices

Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Be familiar with emergency procedures
  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification

Relationships & Professionalism

  • Build positive, productive relationships with children, families, co-workers, collaborating agencies, and the general public
  • Approach the parent-teacher relationship as a partnership, focused on each child's individual strengths and needs
  • Treat others with respect and compassion, and model a positive attitude in the workplace
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Observe, see, hear, and respond to children's needs, emergencies, and conflicts that may occur in the child care center or on the playground
  • Lift 30 pounds from the floor to a waist-high table when necessary
  • Reach a child 20–30 feet away without endangering the staff person's health
  • Crouch to a child's height, maintain eye contact at the child's level, and sit on the floor
  • Handle the responsibilities and routine stress often associated with providing child care services

Qualifications

7.3.2.2 Teacher Associate

A Teacher Associate is at least 20 years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed a GED, and meets one of the following:

  • At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3) Certificate; or
  • At least an associate degree from an accredited college or university with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child and Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services, plus at least 12 months of experience working with groups of children grade three or younger; or
  • At least a Certificate of Completion from a Registered Child Care Apprenticeship program; or
  • At least a Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont, plus at least 12 months of experience working with groups of children grade three or younger; or
  • Successful completion of at least 21 college credits with an early childhood or school-age focus, plus at least 12 months of experience working with groups of children grade three or younger

About Rainbow Playschool

Rainbow playschool is a non-profit organization in the foothills of Mt. Tom in Woodstock, Vermont. We provide daycare and preschool services with an emphasis on play and outdoor education to children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old.  Play. Learn. Grow.
