Pre-K Teacher (ages 3-4)
About This Role
Small Steps is seeking an energetic, nurturing, and dependable Pre-K Teacher to join our team! This position works with children ages 3-4 years old, helping prepare them for kindergarten through hands-on learning, structured routines, social-emotional development, and play-based experiences.
Our ideal candidate loves working with young children, creates engaging learning opportunities, maintains a positive classroom environment, and partners with families to support each child's growth and development.
This is a full-time position working four days per week from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a one-hour lunch break. Employees enjoy weekends off plus one additional weekday off every week.

What You'll Do
Classroom Management & Child Supervision
- Provide active supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
- Establish and maintain a positive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Implement classroom routines and schedules consistently.
- Guide children's behavior using positive discipline and redirection techniques.
- Build positive relationships with children while maintaining appropriate classroom expectations.
Curriculum & Learning
- Implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
- Support school readiness skills including:
- Early literacy
- Language development
- Early math concepts
- Social-emotional learning
- Fine and gross motor development
- Facilitate hands-on learning experiences and center activities.
- Observe and document children's progress and developmental milestones.
Family Communication
- Build positive relationships with families.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding daily activities, accomplishments, and concerns.
- Participate in parent conferences and family engagement activities when needed.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all licensing regulations and center policies.
- Ensure classroom cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards are met.
- Complete required documentation and incident reports accurately.
- Participate in emergency drills and safety procedures.
Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with co-teachers, support staff, and leadership.
- Attend staff meetings and required trainings.
- Assist in maintaining a positive and supportive workplace culture.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
Must meet Texas Child Care Regulation requirements.
Ability to pass background checks and required screenings.
Previous experience working with children in a childcare, preschool, or educational setting.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with children throughout the day.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Positive attitude and professional demeanor.
Ability to get up and down off the floor frequently as we often sit with children for circle time and activities
Nice to Have
CDA, Associate's Degree, or coursework in Early Childhood Education.
Experience teaching children ages 3-4 years old.
Knowledge of Texas Rising Star standards.
Experience with Conscious Discipline or other positive guidance approaches.
Experience creating and implementing lesson plans.
CPR/First Aid certification.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
