Lead Preschool Teacher
About This Role
The Orchard School is a private preschool in West Caldwell, NJ seeking a full-time Lead Preschool Teacher to lead a mixed-age classroom (ages 1–5) in a play-based, child-centered environment.
This role focuses on classroom leadership, daily instruction, and supporting children’s social-emotional development through structured routines, outdoor learning, and hands-on engagement.
We are looking for a reliable, consistent educator who is comfortable working with infants through preschool-aged children and is seeking a long-term position within a collaborative school setting.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM
Pay: $18.00–$20.00 per hour based on education and experience

What You'll Do
- Lead daily classroom instruction using Creative Curriculum
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities for children ages 1–5
- Maintain a structured and consistent classroom routine
- Support children through transitions and emotional regulation
- Communicate with families through daily reports and updates
- Document student progress and developmental milestones
- Lead toileting, diapering, and self-help routines
- Supervise and actively participate in outdoor play in all seasons
- Collaborate with teaching team to support classroom environment
- Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization
Requirements
- Minimum 1–2 years of classroom experience (early childhood preferred)
- Ability to lead a classroom independently within 6 months
- Comfortable working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children
- Willingness to participate in toileting, diapering, and daily caregiving
- Ability to manage a structured classroom and daily routines
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable, punctual, and consistent attendance
- Basic comfort with technology for communication and documentation
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree (any field)
- CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education
- Experience with play-based learning environments
- Experience in mixed-age classrooms
- Familiarity with Creative Curriculum
- Experience using childcare apps or documentation systems
