About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, long-term Assistant Teacher to partner with our Lead Young Preschool Teacher starting August 2026. In this role, you will help guide a sweet group of 2- to 3-year-olds as they learn, play, and master toilet training before transitioning to Preschool.
Our philosophy is play-based and focuses on the whole child. We view behavior as communication and prioritize deep bonds with students and strong partnerships with families.
Your Responsibilities
- Partner in Teaching: Support the Lead Teacher in daily classroom management and play-based learning.
- Track Progress: Assist in tracking child development using Creative Curriculum and Procare WA tools.
- Connect with Families: Build positive, open relationships and handle daily parent communication.
- Maintain Consistency: Stay with your dedicated class to provide the stable environment our children need.
What We Look For
- Experience: Some previous classroom experience working with young children.
- Education: A passion for Early Childhood Education (ECE training is a huge plus!).
- Certification Requirement: Have or be willing to earn your Initial 12-credit ECE certificate (fully funded).
- Commitment: Looking for a professional ready to make a 2+ year commitment for classroom consistency.
- Health & Safety: Proof of MMR vaccination as mandated by Washington State.

What You'll Do
Daily Schedule and Duties
8-9:30 – Free Play
8:30- Lead Assistant Teacher Arrives
Lead- Gathers materials needed for the day, if needed welcomes parents and children arriving
Assistant- Welcomes, facilitates free play.
9:30- Clean Up – Transition to Morning Circle: Both Lead and Assistant guide kids to clean up
9:35- Morning Circle- Morning Snack Set up:
Lead- Leads circle time activities
Assistant- Cleans tables and sink, sets up morning snack
9:55 - End of Morning Circle:
Lead- dismissed kids, then comes to snack tables to help kids find their seats
Assistant- Helps kids wash hands and find seats
10-10:15- Morning Snack:
Assistant and Break Teacher- Serves Snack
10:00-10:30- Lead’s Break
10:15- Snack Clean Up- Bathroom/Diapers- Free Play:
Kids- Clear their own spots at table
Break Teacher - All kids go to bathroom or have diapers checked and changed, cleans sink after
bathroom is done
Assistant- Cleans tables, and sweeps floor
10:30- Project Time:
Lead - Sets up and Facilitates project
Assistant – assists and helps clean up
11:00- Outside:
Lead- Meets with kids at circle rug once classroom is cleaned to get ready
Assistant- Helps put on coats, boots, gloves, hats, etc
11:-11:35- Outside:
Both Lead and Assistant outside on playground facilitating play
11:35- Outside Clean Up:
Both Lead and Assistant guide kids to clean up
Kids- Responsible for putting toys away in right places
11:40- Come inside- Wash Hands- Circle Time:
Lead- Gathers kids on porch to count heads, lets the kids come in to go wash hands, meets them
at circle time, songs are sang until all kids arrive at circle
Assistant- Helps kids wash hands and get to circle
11:40- Circle Time:
Lead- Leads Circle
Assistant- Cleans tables and sink, sets up lunch
11:55 - Transition to Lunch from Circle:
Lead- dismissed kids to go wash, once all are gone from sets up nap mats
Assistant- Helps kids wash hands and find spots
Both- Sing our “we are thankful” song once everyone is seated
12-12:30 – Assistant’s Lunch Break
12:00-12:30- Lunch time:
Both- puts out food on tables, helps serve those who need help, sits with kids
12:30- End of Lunch- Bathroom/Diapering- Quiet Time:
Lead- Helps kids clear their spots, cleans tables, stacks chairs, washes tables, cleans floor, Sets
up rest of mats, closes blinds, turns out light, and starts music
Assistant- Helps with Bathroom and Diapering, gets kids settled on mats with books
Kids- Clear own dishes, napkins, etc, go potty, take shoes off and put them away, go to mat to
read books
12:45- Nap Time Transition:
Both Teachers cover all kids, rub backs, and sit with kids until they are all asleep
1 – 3:00 - Nap Time
Once all students are asleep:
o Lead - Planning
o Assistant- cleans up room and tends to kids
2:30- Afternoon Assistant Arrives-Lead Teacher Leaves for out of classroom plan
Kids- Early wakers can read books or draw quietly at the tables with a teacher
Afternoon- Laundry is done and snack is gathered
3:00- Wake up- Snack- Free Play
Kids- Fold up blankets and mats, put on shoes, go potty, have snack
Assistant- cleans tables, sets up and serves snack. Helps with Bathroom and Diapering
Afternoon- Helps kids fold up mats, puts them away, helps with shoes
3:30- Snack Clean up- Outdoor Transition
Assistant- helps guide kids to clean up toys, gathers everyone at circle, helps with coats, boots,
gloves, etc., dismisses outside
Afternoon- Cleans tables, closes down Rainbow Room. Washes Sheets, Blankets, Pillows on
Monday
4:45- Assistant leaves – Combine with Dewdrops
Afternoon- cleans up playground, empties porch trash, sweeps porch.
5:00 – 5 o’clock Snack
5:30 – School Closes
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate/GED.
- Basic Childcare Training 30 hours, FREE online training (have or get by 30 days).
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- DCYF Portable Background Check (Register for a STARS#, Merit Account FREE)
- Proof of MMR
QUALIFICATIONS
Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: light to medium lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.
