Childcare Assistant Teachers Before/After School Care
About This Role
Based in Beacon Falls, this support staff member opening at United Day School pays $17.50 – $18.50/Hr and requires no formal early childhood credentials to start.
United Day School is a small center with before/after school locations in Beacon Falls and Prospect,CT. We believe children learn by doing. Our goal is to provide a warm, nurturing, engaging, and FUN learning environment for our preschool and school age students to help create a life long love of learning.
We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced school age assistant teachers to join our team.
The assistant teacher is responsible for the care, education, supervision, and safety of all children in their care as part of a team. The assistant teacher helps keep the program running smoothly, keeps head teacher/director aware of any concerns/issues, and.learns, implements and ensures compliance with State of CT Licensing standards.

What You'll Do
- Maintain a safe play environment.
- Observe and monitor children's play activities.
- Communicate with children's parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues.
- Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
- Sanitize toys and play equipment.
- Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered.
- Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children.
- Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
- Perform general administrative tasks, such as taking attendance, editing internal paperwork, and making phone calls.
- Create developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
- Perform housekeeping duties, cleaning, dish washing, and sweeping.
- Help children with homework and school work.
Requirements
- Experience in childcare, before/after school setting required - 1+ year professional experience
- Clear understanding of OEC licensing requirements, and willingness to meet.
- Must have or be willing to obtain current first aid, CPR, and medication administration training.
- Must be able to successfully pass all security and background checks in accordance with regulatory requirements.

- Must have personal qualities necessary to care for and work with children, work as part of a team and communicate with parents and other professionals.
- Flexible schedule to work before and after school shifts approx. 6:30-8:30am and 2:45-5/6:00pm
- Occasional 8:30-10:30 and/or 12:45-5/6 on delayed openings or early dismissal days
