About This Role
Our Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging environment that fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth of young children. As a lead teacher, you will develop and implement activities that cater to diverse learning styles and promote a sense of belonging among our students.
Working Hours:
We are looking for someone to work 8:15-Noon, 1-5 days a week
Or 12:15 - 4pm, 5 days a week
What You'll Do
- Develop curricula that align with UHP's philosophy and goals, taking into account the unique needs and abilities of each child.
- Provide top-notch care and supervision for your assigned group of children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Build positive relationships with children and encourage socialization among them.
- Foster a culture of respect, acceptance, and inclusivity by:
- Creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that celebrates individuality.
- Providing personalized attention and support to each child.
- Offering constructive feedback and encouragement to promote growth and development.

- Designing a curriculum that unlocks each child's full potential.

- Integrating diverse perspectives and experiences into our curriculum.
- Using effective communication strategies to engage with families from diverse backgrounds.
- Conducting annual conferences with parents to discuss each child's progress and goals.
- Maintaining detailed records of each child's progress and communicating with parents throughout the year.
- Coordinating with your co-teacher to ensure representation at Board meetings.
- Supporting UHP's compliance with all regulatory requirements, including licensing and accreditation.
- Taking on additional responsibilities as needed to ensure the success of our program.
Requirements
- A DPI teaching license from the State of Wisconsin that includes Pre-K (4K), a Bachelor’s Degree to apply for a substitute teaching license or a Bachelor’s Degree and the commitment to acquire a 4K teaching license is a requirement for this position.
- A warm and approachable demeanor that allows you to connect with children and families.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and the Director to achieve our program's goals.
- Professional behavior and communication with children, families, parent helpers, and co-workers.
- Able to work with co-teacher in cooperation with the Director and/or Administrator, other teachers, members of the UHP Board, and all families of the school to provide a stimulating and safe environment for the children.
- At least 18 years of age.
- At least 320 hours of experience as an assistant child care teacher in a group child care center or other approved early childhood setting.
- Able to lift 2 -7-year-old children if needed up to 50 pounds.
- Prior to assuming the position, a person hired to be a child care teacher shall complete or obtain coursework related to this position.
- Complete a background check.
- We will assist you to fulfill other required training for the position.
- Maintain vaccination for COVID-19.
- Willing to fulfill job responsibilities in accordance with UHP program philosophy.
Nice to Have
We are seeking a candidate with experience in a play-based preschool program, preferably in a City of Madison accredited setting.
Benefits
- Paid vacation days for teacher shall include the following:
- Labor Day
- Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday after Thanksgiving
- Martin Luther King Day
- Teacher shall be allowed without deduction in the agreed fee, twelve (12) sick days prorated for part-time. After the first year, unused sick days may be accumulated from year to year, up to a maximum of twenty days (20).
- If enrollment is at maximum teacher will be paid a bonus at the end of the fall and the spring semesters.
- INSERVICE:
- Within the salary as specified in this agreement, is included the following paid in-service time:
- Thirteen and a half (13.5) hours of staff meeting time
- Two (2) days (3.5 hours/day) for teacher to attend state and regional conferences as described on attached benefits.
- Each semester, one 2-hour planning/in-service to be held during set-up/close-down weeks.
- UHP will pay up to a maximum of half of $100.00 a year per staff member, toward teacher’s continuing professional education as approved by the Board of Directors.
- UHP will pay 0% of twelve (12) monthly health insurance premiums for teacher under an insurance plan offered by Community Coordinated Child Care (4-C). Teacher is able to access the plans but must pay full premiums. Healthcare.gov is an insurance marketplace for your own coverage.
- Insurance/Retirement Benefits: Each employee will receive $50 per month to put toward their own insurance and/or retirement account.
- UHP will pay $40 per month toward employee phone.
- All teacher children receive 50% tuition. This benefit starts after teacher passes probationary period.
