About This Role
This support staff member position at YWCA NETN and SWVA in Bristol offers $45,000 – $50,000/Yr. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
The Director of Childcare is responsible for the daily operations and overall management of the YWCA Children’s Center. The Director is also responsible for the planning and directing of care services for the participants in the program with the participation of the staff.
What You'll Do
Program Management and Development
- Ensures the YWCA Children’s Center operates at all times within the guidelines of YWCA policies and procedures and the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services Licensure Rules and any local, state and/or federal mandates and guidelines of other regulatory agencies
- Ensures that Health, Environment and Fire Inspection standards are met; meets with inspectors when necessary
- Maintains licensing standard, required documentation and paperwork, annual licensing renewal, and licensing visits
- Maintains confidentiality in regard to participants, their families and or caregivers
- Supervises all aspects of Staff work, including:
- Conducts Interviews with the Director of Licensed Programs
- Conducts training and orientation for newly hired employees
- Ensures that staff have complete documents and papers necessary to employment and licensing
- Supervising, scheduling and coordinating the activities of the Assistant Director and all childcare staff to assure the needs of participants and families are met
- Conducts monthly staff meetings
- Conducts annual staff evaluation with the Director of Licensed Programs
- Maintaining staff training records in accordance with state regulations
- Supervising the Cook
- Maintaining Directors training
- Participates in conferences, training sessions, and meetings relating to areas of assigned responsibility
- Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO
Childcare
- Ensures proper procedures are followed, including:
- Enrollment procedures
- Parent orientations
- Family qualification on sliding scale fee
- Waiting list maintenance
- Tours new parents around facility
- Maintains childcare licensing standards, including:
- Required paperwork
- Annual licensing renewal
- Licensing visits
- Meeting with Program Evaluator as necessary
- Oversees Food Bank:
- Monthly reports for USDA, Distribution report
Requirements
- Works in a safety-conscious manner which ensures that safe work practices are used in order not to pose a risk to self or others in the workplace. Reports any safety violations or hazards to supervisor.
- Complies with YWCA policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations

Physical & Mental Demands
- Walking, standing, talking and hearing. Supervision requirements by the State of Tennessee Licensure Rules states that an employee must be able to hear the child at all times, must be able to see the child with a quick glance, and must be able to physically respond immediately.
- Ability to routinely lift children, move furniture in an early childhood classroom and sustain long hours of active work for 8 hours or more.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to remain alert and energetic for 8 hours or more
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Agility to move quickly and keep pace with toddlers
